To make this Handprint Baby Chick Craft, I used a 12 x 12 piece of scrapbook paper for the background. I made a yellow circle for the head and one for the body by tracing circular items I had around the kitchen. The wings were made with my son's yellow handprints and the feet with his orange handprints. He glued on googly eyes and yarn hair. So cute! I love the way it turned out.
We also read 2 books to go along with this Spring/Easter craft. The 1st book is Wee Little Chick by Lauren Thompson. It's an adorable story about a brand new little chick who is small but still stands the tallest, runs the fastest, peeps the loudest, and finds the biggest seed of them all. Mama Hen says she's her wee little chick & she's just big enough! I love the flow of the book and it's such a cute little story.
The 2nd book we read is Little Chick by Amy Hest. I love the illustrations in this book, as does my 3 year old. It is actually 3 stories in one that take place in the morning, afternoon, and night and all 3 involve her Old-Auntie. The 1st story is about Little Chick waiting for her beautiful carrot to grow. The 2nd story is about her trying to fly her leaf kite and finally gets it to fly. The 3rd story is about her trying to reach her star out of the sky. Old-Auntie convinces her that the sky would be dull without her star and to just leave it there.
