Footprint Manger Tiles- Reader Submission

Check out this Footprint Manger Tile preschool teacher Ruthann made with her 3 year old students to give to the parents as gifts! She stumbled upon the My Top 10 Favorite New Christmas Crafts Post I did the other day featuring this design on a plate and decided that she HAD to do it with her class. I am not sure where she bought the tiles from, but you can usually find them at stores like Lowe's & Home Depot for fairly cheap. On the back she placed this poem found from a different Handprint Manger Craft:

I used my foot to make a manger,
a place for Jesus to lay.
I'll use my heart so full of love,
as a place for Jesus to stay.

To do this part, she placed the poem on scrapbook paper and glued it to the back. They made 13 total and the kids gave them to their parents along with a plate stand. "Parents were actually in tears as they opened them up. It was very sweet."

Thanks Ruthann- they turned out beautiful!

I am linking up to these link parties!

Did you use sharpie's for the writting? I am just wondering the supplies for the plate craft bc I wanna make them for my sons grandparents great grandparents and great aunts and great uncle's!

@Anonymous -

Yes, I believe the reader whom submitted this craft used a sharpie. You could use Enamel Paints for the prints & decorative elements... write the words with a sharpie.... & then back it in the oven according to the directions on the back of the Enamel Paint bottle. Please make sure you have your work surface covered very well as those types of paints do not come out of anything. And of course they are not kid-friendly paints so make sure to not leave the kids alone with the paints if they are at an age wear they might want to eat it.

Good Luck! You could also use kids paint and seal it with a clear gloss sealant (spray can). Feel free to post your finished pieces on our FB wall if you wish to share them with others :)

Thanks!

I made this for gifts too! I used plates from the dollar store and a paint pens.

Thank you for this fabulous idea!! Is there a particular kind of paint to use on ceramic?? Could I used good ol' tempera?? And then would it need to be 'finished' somehow? I love this, don't want to botch it. Thank you! :)

@Melissa - I use Enamel Paints.... Folk Art brand to be exact. I like the quality and it doesn't scratch off easily. If you use another kind of paint and are worried about it, seal it with a clear sealant spray found in craft section at stores like Wal-mart or in craft stores like Michael's (have them recommend one to you so you can be sure to get one that dries smooth and not bumpy :)

Do you get the tiles from Home Depot? I have looked at Michael's and Hobby Lobby and could not find them.

I absolutely love this idea! I have been to Hobby Lobby and Michael's and neither one of them had the ceramic tiles. Where would I find them? Home Depot?

@Abbi - Yes, I would try Home Depot or Lowes. Happy Holidays :)
