Footprint Chili Pepper {Cinco de Mayo Craft}

Cinco de Mayo Footprint Chili Pepper Craft
16 months old

I made this darling footprint chili pepper character with my 1 yr old toddler as a Cinco de Mayo keepsake craft. Since my kids Father is Mexican, I try to focus on crafts that introduce them to their heritage in a fun way.

My 4 year old will not eat anything spicy & is in the typical picky eater phase for his age group. From early on, we have tried to get him to try more of the traditional Mexican Food that his Papa's side of the family eats, but if it isn't chicken taquitos, quesadillas, or black beans, he wants nothing to do with it (just like his Momma.... he, he!). His sister on the other hand, already at age 1 tries to eat spicy things. She makes the silliest faces and even the funniest little cries while eating spicy foods, but she always wants more!!! She will be eating chili peppers & jalapenos in no time.

I thought the footprint chili pepper would be the perfect craft for my little girl. It was inspired by a chili pepper craft that I bookmarked last year which is definitely worth taking a peek at- it isn't a character, but she cut hers out, punched a whole in them, & hung them up with string.

Here's how I made mine:
  1. Paint foot red and press on to paper in color of choice.
  2. Color or paint a green stem.
  3. Color on black arms, legs, & shoes.
  4. Make white thumbprint eyes.
  5. Make white fingerprint hands.
  6. Outline eyes in black.
  7. I thought it would be cute to write "Hot Stuff!" on ours but, of course, that part is optional.

Have you made any handprint-themed food crafts? I'd love for you to share in the comments; related links are welcome too!

I link up to these parties!
